Nearly 75 years of serving older adults
Greensboro, N.C.- based nonprofit Kintura is deeply rooted in the similar histories and principles of the two organizations from which it originates.
In 1952, The Presbyterian Homes, Inc. was established to find a community for older adults that focused on faith, every day wellness and empowered, fulfilling lifestyles. Six years later, The Presbyterian Home of High Point opened in High Point, N.C. The Presbyterian Homes extended its mission to serve a broader range of older adults and became known in 2022 as Brightspire.
Similarly, what was then called Well-Spring Retirement Community opened in 1993 in Greensboro, N.C., the result of the efforts of area faith organizations that wanted a continuing care – now called “life plan” – community in Greensboro. And it, too, expanded its mission and became The Well-Spring Group.
Over time, the two organizations greatly evolved and grew. The former Brightspire opened additional life plan communities: Scotia Village in Laurinburg, N.C., in 1988, followed by Cary, N.C.-based Glenaire in 1993. River Landing at Sandy Ridge opened in 2003 near High Point, N.C. Brightspire launched management services in 2016, overseeing the operational needs of Friends Homes in Greensboro. Meanwhile, The Well-Spring Group invited what was then known as the Adult Center for Enrichment into its fold. Today as Well-Spring Solutions, this branch of the organization serves older adults with dementia, along with the needs of their family caregivers, to make it possible for loved ones to reside at home as long as possible. In addition, Well-Spring Solutions offers home care services and supports family caregivers through educational programs and support group sessions. In 2022, The Village at Brookwood, a life plan community in Burlington, N.C., became part of The Well-Spring Group.
Mission expansion continued. The Well-Spring Group became a majority partner in PACE of the Triad, which today provides all-inclusive care for the elderly in Forsyth, Guilford, Rockingham, Stokes and Surry counties in North Carolina. In 2016, the Brightspire joined efforts to provide affordable housing for older adults by partnering in Capital Towers, a 298-unit community in Raleigh, N.C.
Finally, in 2024, the long, rich histories and trajectories of The Well-Spring Group and Brightspire converged – to create a new parent entity, Kintura. Together, two already strong and vibrant organizations are even more so now as one, excited and invigorated about a promising, robust future, continuing to serve with compassion, professionalism and dedication the many needs of older adults.
