Brightspire Leadership Academy's first participants began in January 2021 and graduated in October 2021. The new class of Brightspire's Leadership Academy began meeting in February 2024, with 19 participants, 3 coaches, guidance provided by Kelli Underhill's, Director of Workforce Development. The class is able to visit all of the Brightspire communities, and participate in guided programs provided by current leadership at Brightspire, as well as guest speakers.

Participants of the academy have to nominate themselves and write a short explanation on why they should be selected. This program has helped with retention by encouraging internal and personal growth. The best part of the academy is employees from all across the organization make up a class of fellows.
The participants received leadership development in the following areas.

  • The "business" of Senior Care – Panel of Senior Care Leaders
  • An overview of The Presbyterian Home's Inc. – Meet the Executive Directors
  • Motivation & Change Management
  • Critical Thinking & Leadership 101
  • Personality Styles (DiSC Work of Leaders)
  • Conflict Resolution & Team Building
  • Retention & Diversity
  • Legal & Ethical issues
  • Critical Conversations
  • Generational Differences in the Workplace

Fellows in the program pick a leadership book throughout the 8 month program, and present the key point to share with their class. A group project is also presented at the graduation in October of each year.

Thanks to the Brightspire Foundation, we are able to continue to connect employees in all departments, and foster a sense of camaraderie, which promotes a strong and reliable workplace.
