Leaders in aging services – Brightspire and The Well-Spring Group – officially close agreement, coming together to launch new nonprofit, Kintura.

Establishes largest not-for-profit N.C. senior living organization; in top 40 nationally.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – In a historic milestone for both organizations, aging services leaders Brightspire and The Well-Spring Group today officially closed their agreement to come together as one new parent entity, the Greensboro-based nonprofit Kintura.

Upon signing, Kintura operations began immediately to run an organization made up of five owned and a managed “life plan” or continuing care retirement communities, as well as an array of home- and community-based services for older adults. As such, Kintura becomes the largest not-for-profit senior living entity in North Carolina and among the top 40 nationally.

“After more than a year of careful due diligence and planning, we are so proud to bring together two strong, vibrant leaders in serving the needs of older adults into one even more robust, innovative and cutting-edge company,” said Lori Haddock, chair of Kintura’s board of directors. “As Kintura, we are even better positioned to deliver aging services in a fast-growing demographic within an ever-evolving landscape. In addition, we can offer our team members more competitive benefits and greater opportunities for career advancement. This is a great win all around.”

Kintura serves nearly 3,000 residents and employs more than 2,100 team members in North Carolina.

Its portfolio now encompasses:

  • Five continuing care or “life plan” retirement communities: Glenaire in Cary; River Landing at Sandy Ridge in High Point; Scotia Village in Laurinburg; The Village at Brookwood in Burlington; and Well-Spring in Greensboro;

  • Well-Spring Solutions, which includes home- and community-based services for older adults, in particular adult day and group respite programs for those with dementia

  • A partnership in two affordable housing communities in Raleigh;

  • And the majority partnership in PACE of the Triad, a focused program for all-inclusive care for the elderly serving Forsyth, Guilford, Rockingham, Stokes and Surry counties,

Kintura also continues its long-time management of the retirement community Friends Homes in Greensboro.

Stephen (Steve) Fleming, former president and CEO of The Well-Spring Group, and Timothy (Tim) Webster, former president and CEO of Brightspire, serve as co-CEOs of the new parent entity. Fleming’s duties will emphasize organizational strategy, while Webster’s duties will focus on operations.

Each Kintura life plan community retains its name, culture and established traditions while benefiting from a strengthened organization that has greater depth and financial resources to invest in services and expanded programs. Enhanced scale also will benefit team members through competitive benefits and greater opportunities for potential career advancement, thus helping Kintura attract and retain the most talented employees.

Both organizations are equally contributing to funding Kintura’s launch. The charitable foundation arms of both organizations remain unchanged and in place.

The name “Kintura” combines forms of “kindness” and “kindred” and, in a nod to both former organizations’ shared founding heritage, the Scottish Gaelic term for “journey” or “travel.” Kintura represents the journey of the older adults the organization serves – and that they are served not only with kindness and a kindred spirit but also with compassion, care and professionalism.
