Sheri Sampson, the Wellness Director at Glenaire, has made a significant impact in her 15 months at the helm of the wellness program, drawing on over 20 years of experience in the healthcare field. Her extensive career includes working with spinal injury and stroke patients, and she brings a wealth of knowledge to Glenaire’s wellness initiatives.
Sampson feels fortunate to work in an environment where physical movement can lead to positive change in residents' lives. Her dedication to healthcare and wellness is evident in her approach to fitness, which emphasizes the power of community and emotional connection.
“I am a big believer in the power of community,” said Sampson. “It reinforces the human connection that happens when people have an emotional bond.”
Sampson’s background in health-positive activities, including being a two-time Half Ironman Triathlon participant, allows her to inspire others to pursue a healthier lifestyle. She thrives on the variety each day brings, from adjusting exercise plans to meeting the evolving needs of residents.
One of Sampson’s favorite initiatives at Glenaire is Glen Gears, a program that combines cycling and outdoor adventure. “I not only teach a cycling class, but Glen Gears allows me to join residents on biking trails around Cary, North Carolina. It is wonderful to be outdoors and witness fun fitness,” she shared.
Glenaire also offers a broad range of wellness activities, including the popular Glenaire 5K event, which will host its 9th annual race this April. “I get to see our residents reach a health milestone they maybe never imagined,” Sampson said. The Glenaire 5K has become a cornerstone of the wellness program, providing residents with an opportunity to challenge themselves physically and celebrate their achievements.
In addition to the Glenaire 5K, the community’s wellness offerings include weekly classes in cycling, water aerobics, yoga, seated volleyball, and more. These classes help residents stay active and engaged, fostering a culture of health and well-being at Glenaire.
Looking ahead, Glenaire will host the annual Kintura Artist Showcase in February, a highly anticipated event that brings residents together to celebrate the arts.
Under Sampson’s leadership, the wellness program at Glenaire continues to grow, offering residents a variety of opportunities to improve their health and enjoy an active lifestyle in a supportive, community-oriented environment.
